WATERMAN CARENE - WATERMAN'S CREATION DEDICATED TO THE SEA

Since this model fascinates me, both for its design and for the quality materials with which it was produced, I took the trouble to do a little research on the web to learn more.

I found most of the information in old threads of the Fountain pen Network, the forum that for years has collected the contributions of experts and collectors from all over the world, becoming one of the richest sources of reliable information on the web.

The Carene was introduced in 1997/1998 and was born as a model dedicated to the sea. The name itself means “hull” in French and its soft and rounded design is intended to recall the lines of the keel of a ship that ploughs through the waves.

The softness of the lines characterizes the entire structure of the pen, which goes well with the slightly curved line of the clip that recalls a sea wave.

The model was designed as a flagship line, intended to replace the Edson, with a medium value sales price, intended for a large public.

The integrated nib sums up Waterman’s tradition  starting from the small inlay nib of the CF, which has had so much success for decades on the international market, passing through the precious nib of the Edson.

The design of the nib of the Carene is less important than that of the large Edson, but it maintains its style and elegance.

The colors of the first series were all dedicated to the sea.

In the description of Waterman’s website of the time, the new model was proposed with this definition:

“Carène rides the crest of the innovation wave. Taking inspiration from luxury boat design, the result is our most distinguished example of pioneering vision. Crafted in noble materials, with an artist’s attention to detail, its pure fluid curves conjure up the sleekest lines of a leisure cruiser, or the billowing sails of a luxury yacht. Set sail for the adventure of a lifetime.”

The model is currently in production and the range of colours and finishes has been greatly expanded, this is the list (I hope complete) of the finishes made.
