WATERMAN 52 SOLID 9CT GOLD OVERLAY - BARLEY PATTERN - MADE IN UK

Ever since the introduction of lever fillers, the 52 has been for Waterman its most successful model, thanks on the one side to its proper size and balance which make it perfectly suitable for medium and small hands and, on the other side, for the good price/quality ratio.
The 52 has been declined in wide range of variations, with sizes going from 51up to 58 and availability of short models (indicated by the suffix V) and thinner pens ( indicated by the suffix 1/2). Lever filling models of the 1920's were manufactured in colorful ebonite, with solid gold, solid silver and gold filled overlays with a number of designs. The acronym L.E.C. (Long Extended Case) indicated a full size overlay.
A few patterns of decorations are rarer than others because they were produced in smaller numbers at the time.
Waterman pens distributed in European countries have overlays with decorations which are typical of each country, mostly rolled gold for Italy, silver, rolled gold and solid 18 carat for France, silver and solid 9 carat gold for England.
This beautiful Waterman 52 with barley overlay is a British product and the overlay is marked 375 ( 9 carat gold). The overlay is in perfect condition with no dings nor damages.
The nib is a very pleasant rigid Waterman nr. 2, perfectly suitable fo everyday writing. Please note that a vintage rigid nib still offers much more responsiveness than any rigid modern nib.
