OMAS ARLECCHINO - 75TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION - UNUSED

In 2000 Omas celebrated its 75th anniversary of activity.

Many celebrative models were introduced that year. One of the most interesting 75th Anniversary limited editions is undoubtedly the Arlecchino.

This pen is full of history and it is probably one of the most representative models produced by the Bologna-based company.

The name Arlecchino derives from the famous character of the Italian Commedia dell'Arte, whose clothes were full of colorful patches. Arlecchino was a very poor servant, he was simple-minded but very witty at times and perpetually hungry.

His clothes were the expression of poverty in the same way as the so-called Arlecchino celluloid, used by many pen makers in the past, was manufactured using small pieces and bits of  celluloid leftovers, kept together by solvants.

Omas itself had used  this unusual celluloid in the 1930s: Mr. Simoni in fact manufactured  a few lady-sized fountain pens for his wife using arlecchino celluloid. One of these pens had a prevalence of orange, black and green and  this arlecchino pen became the inspiration for this modern precious limited edition.

The clip of this pen is decorated with a typical globe with small circles. This globe can be found on very early Omas levers. The clip is therefore another symbolic detail of this pen.

This Arlecchino limited edition is unused and comes with its complete packaging. Serial number is 609/750.

A note on the bad reputation of the Arlecchino celluloid: generally celluloid in the process of deterioration is very agressive on metal parts. The  clip on this pen is in outstanding condition. It was probably manufactured with a lucky batch of arlecchino celluloid.
