MONTEGRAPPA FACETTED LEVER FILLER- SUPER RARE DESIGN

In the late 1930's Montegrappa marketed a few extraordinarily unusual models. These were facetted pens with a very original pattern as the facets are not straight and linear but and a wavy design. The result is a kind of extra shine which enhance the beauty of the models.

Montegrappa used this special decoration mostly on black  pens and adopted a similar design for its Ducale desk pens as well. This Montegrappa Extra is actually the first and only example I have ever met of this pattern used on  laminated celluloid.

The wavy pattern is much more definite on the cap than on the barrel; I suppose the pen was over polished which remarkably softened the corners of the facets on the barrel which anyway remain clearly visible.

This is an outstanding example of Montegrappa's ingeniousness to manufacture extraordinary writing instruments in the past. Nowadays this refined decorative approach has been revitalized by Montegrappa with the Brenta model which clearly draws inspiration from old models like this one.

The pen is fitted with a 14 ct Montegrappa nib.
