FIPS BUTTON FILLER - BY OMAS

The abbreviation FIPS (Fabbrica Italiana di Penne Stilografiche – Italian fountain pen factory) refers to the Rome store Fetti (today called Stilofetti), opened in 1893 by Emanuele Fetti in Via Orfani.

Fetti’s business flourished and  fountain pens soon became the store’s flagship product. The company name Fips was registered in the early thirties.

Fetti was the main Omas retailer in Rome and they had many of their own products manufactured by Omas. FIPS pens of the 1930s are known both as pocket models and as desk pens in ebonite and colourful celluloids.

Duofold-style button fillers ( both flat top and streamlined) recall Omas production and are often manufactured in the same materials Omas used for its own pens.

Unfortunately This FIPS button filler hasn't got its original nib and it is fitted with a replacement 14 ct "warranted" gold nib which is very flexible with an F tip.

A very highly collectible pen and a great writer, too.
