WATERMAN 56 CARDINAL RED EBONITE - FLEXIBLE NIB

Waterman used cardinal red and ripple ebonite since the early 1910s for safeties and lever fillers and kept on using this materials till the late 1920s. Waterman was in fact the last pen company in the USA to adopt celluloid and kept on manufacturing ebonite pens while other pen makers were already producing pens in colorful celluloid.

The range of lever fillers comprised sizes from 51 up to 58 (the numbering system is simple: 5 refers to the lever filling mechanism while units refer to nib size). Ebonite pens were manufactured in black, mottled, red ripple, cardinal red, rose ripple, yellow ripple and blue ripple and they represent one of the most interesting chapters in pen history.

This  56 in cardinal red ebonite is in outstandin condition. The color of the ebonite is very even and there are no darkened areas. The pen is fitted with a fantastic, very responsive and pleasant nr. 6 nib, grade F.

Definitely a very rare piece with a superb nib.
