OMAS EXTRA OGIVA 557 - 1950'S

In 1948 Omas renewed its line of pens introducing ogiva shaped piston fillers which were initially named Extra.
These early Extra piston fillers were manufactured both with cylindrical and facetted design. There were three sizes and three colors.
Sizes were 555 ( lady size), 556 ( standard size) and 557 (oversize). The models were manufactured in black, gray pearl and tortoiseshell brown celluloid.
The entire line was definitely renamed shortly afterwards. The word "Extra" was done away with from the barrel of the cylindrical pens and replaced with the indication of the size and the suffix "S" (Semplice - Simple) for cylindrical pens and "F" (Facetted) for facetted models. The word EXTRA was retained only on the oversize cylindrical model.
Oversize 557 models are extremely rare nowadays, expecially in color.
Only a very few Oversize models in colorful celluloid are known.
This Omas Extra Ogiva 557 is therefore a very rare piece and it is is in excellent condition.
The pen is fitted with a very pleasant Omas etra nib, with a great flexibility.
