The Extra 55X series was introduced by Omas at the end of the1940's. The series comprised three sizes of piston fillers: 555 (lady), 556 ( senior) and 557 ( oversize). While 556F are fairly common and not so difficult to find, oversize pens are extremely scarce and very desirable.

The first series of the 557/F was marketed with a simple Omas Extra imprint on the barrel. The barrel imprint was later on replaced by a two line engraving continent the patent number.

The nib Omas chose for  this series of pens was the famous Extra Lucens 14 ct gold the company had been using since 1939 on Extra Lucens models.
