WATERMAN 52 RED RIPPLE - SOLID 9CT BANDS - BRITISH PRODUCTION - STUB NIB
Waterman exported its products all over Europe and had exclusive agents in their major markets such as Italy, France and Great Britain. Each market had specific preferences and Waterman models were adjusted to meet the standards each market suggested. In Italy and France Waterman models were very often enriched with precious/semi-precious overlays, while in England solid silver and solid gold were generally preferred.
The style of the overlays was completely different form country to country, thus making French, Italian or British models easy recognisable.
The British market, heavily dominated by Onoto, Conway Stewart and Swan pens required Waterman pens to become "more precious". Thus most British Waterman pens are fitted with 9 ct solid gold bands on caps and barrels. In the same way, most overlays we find on British Waterman pens, are 9 ct gold with barley or geometric patterns of decoration.
This Waterman 52 has two solid 9 ct gold bands, one on the cap and one on the barrel. The bands show the typical British solid gold hallmarks.
The pen is in excellent condition with a very pleasant Waterman nr. 2 Stub nib, which is a real fun to use.
