Waterman pens were imported in Europe with success and Waterman established an efficiente network of general agents in many countries. In many cases some Waterman models were partially reviewed and their appearance changed from country to country. In France for instance, we find Waterman pens with shiny chrome finish which are not found in other countries. This is even more true for overlays, which were developed according to the taste and the market of different countries. 

In Italy we had a flourishing production mainly of fantastic gold filled overlays, in France there was a majority of silver overlays and in England solid 9 carats gold overlays were offered. Solid 9 carat gold was widely used for overlays along with silver by many British pen makers and we often find Waterman pens with patters of decoration which are reminiscent of other brands such as Onoto and Swan.

This beautiful Waterman 52 1/2 V shows a typical British 9 carat barley overlay and it is an extremely pleasant writer.
