OMAS MARCONI 100 YEARS OF RADIO - 1995 - SPECIAL UNNUMBERED PRODUCTION

Guglielmo Marconi was born in 1874; he was an electrical engineer, a physicist and above all, he was the inventor the radio-based wireless telegraph system which led him to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics  in 1909.

His research and work paved the way for the development of radio, television and the modern wireless communication systems we use today.

In 1995 Omas dedicated a special limited edition  this Italian genius, to celebrate the first 100 years of his discovery.

The Marconi Limited edition was designed to recall Marconi's work in every detail, including the package, with a drawing of the Electra ship where Marconi lived and carried out most of his  experiments.

The Marconi Limited edition was a very articulated production which comprised a number of different finishes: Marconi in blue resin with gold horizontal stripes to recall the audio waves which were the basis of Marconi's work, manufactured in 4000 pieces; Marconi silver with the same kind of  vermeil decoration in 2800 pieces;  Marconi in solid 18 ct gold in only 340 pieces; Marconi  in gray resin made for the Russian market only, in 154 pieces and finally a Marconi in silver with blue enamel decoration and enamelled clip which was not numbered and was designed to be given to  Omas distributors only and which is dubbed "Elettra".

All the different editions have the QSL acronym on the cap which is part of the radio slang, meaning "acknowledge receipt".

This Omas Marconi in silver is one of the very few pieces made for the Omas distributors; it is not numbered and has only the date 1995 engraved on the blue resin.

The pen is unused and it comes with a  standard wooden Marconi box.

A very special piece to complete a collection.
