OMAS EXTRA PISTON FILLER WITH GOLD FILLED CAP - FLEXIBLE NIB
At the end of WWII, Omas restyled the entire line of their pens to make them more modern an easier to use.
The traditional plunger filler used for the Lucens and Extra Lucens lines was abandoned in favor of the piston.
The design of the pens was reviewed, too and Omas chose a more aerodynamic shape for cylindrical pens, adopting the fashionable Ogiva style, while facetted pens were restyled giving them a lighter and more elegant look.
The new models were named Extra, following Omas' tradition of using the word Extra for its pens. They were offered both with facetted and Ogival design in black, tortoise brown and gray pearl celluloid. The black ogiva models were available with gold filled cap too.
These Extra models were however short- lived and were soon replaced by the 55X line. While facetted models remained identical and only the barrel engraving was changed from "Omas Extra" to a two-line engraving which included the patent number, the new ogival models were redefined in girth: the new 55X models not only sported a different barrel engraving but were also thinner than their Extra predecessors.
The new series were named 55X ( 555,556, 557) with the addition of the letter F for the facetted lines ( 555/F, 556/F, 557/F).
This Omas Extra pen is part of the short-lived line of Extra Piston fillers and it is a fantastic writer.
The nib is soft and very flexible and it is a pleasure to use.
The en comes with its original presentation box which is covered in leather.
Nib grade is F.
