OMAS 72 GOLD FILLED CASING - NOS

The late 60s were very difficult years for the world of fountain pens and for Omas in particular. The competition of ball pens became stronger and stronger and the taste of the market changed dramatically in favour of slender, very modern and functional writing instruments.
Most of the major pen brands shifted to cartridge fillers to meet the needs of consumers who refused to be tied to ink bottles and wanted to be free to carry around their pens in their pursue. The use of metal for the pen body and cap became the rule and most fountain pens became simple metal cylinders with very little decoration.
In 1968 Omas Introduced its first cartridge filler, the Omas 71 Super. Originally manufactured in gray pearl celluloid with a special facetted design which tapers towards the end of the barrel, the pen had a cap enriched with a large band to match the metal finish of the section. The following year the model 72 was introduced; it was again a cartridge filler offered with resin black body and gold filled cap, with complete gold plated and sterling silver casing.
The 72 is a significant model which embodies the passage from the search for beauty to the search for function.
It’s a slim model where the only concession to embellishment is the metal finish on the section. The semi hooded nib represents another concession to modernity .
This Omas 72 is new old stock and it is exactly as it was when it was offered in shops in the early 1970s. The packaging is complete, with box and outer box, instruction leaflet and the typical plastic cartridge container.
Nib is 14 ct gold, semiflex, grade F.
