The line of 14Xs in striped celluloid which were introduced in 1948 are today grail pens for many collectors. The large 146 is definitely among the most desirable vintage Montblanc pens to have.

The line was manufactured in light green, dark green and gray striped celluloid in the sizes 142, 144 and 146. A version in dark green with black stripes is also known only in the 146 size. Cap bands read Meisterstuck for the models marketed in Germany and Masterpiece for the export models.

These pens are fitted with Montblanc's telescopic piston and were designed to hold a larger quantity of ink in comparison to less complex piston fillers. The nibs are two tone 14 ct gold and feeders are in ebonite with flat feeders for the earlier years and bumped feeders being introduced later on.

This set, which comprises a 146 in light green celluloid and its matching 172 mechanical pencil, is in fantastic condition with no traces of ambering nor discoloration. It came in a superb, stylish box which is probably bit earlier than the set itself but absolutely beautiful.

The pen is stamped "M" and the tip of the nib actually looks like M but when you use it to write, its line is more an F, with a nice degree of flexibility.
