In the 1930s Montblanc introduced the "3" line of writing instruments to diversify their offer and attract more buyers. The "3" line was a less expensive line of pens and the  early models were offered with a special guaranteee which allowed customers to return the pens within one year of the purchase and be credited the value of the pen to acquire a better model of the Meisterstuck line.

The  line was pretty successful and it was originally produced in black. The feature of these low-cost models was the simple star outline on the cap top and the piston filling mechanism. The models were introduced in pre-war years and were fitted with gold nibs but   during the war they were marketed with steel nibs. In postwar years the gold nibs were brought back into production.

333 1/2 models are more commonly found in black. However, one catalogue from the 1930s does confirm that the model was also manufactured in  blue, green, and pearl. Today, the coloured versions are definitely far rarer than standard black specimens.

This Montblanc 333 1/2 in green marbled celluloid is in outstanding condition and shows very minimal signs of use. The color is even and vibrant and the nib is very peasant to use.
