War years in Italy were particularly hard for pen companies as they had to renounce the use of precious metals and gold for the production of pens.

As a consequence, models of these years  started to be fitted with chrome coloured metal finish and gold nibs were abandoned. Some minor pen markers even adopted glass nibs to save on metal and reduce costs of production.

Major companies such as Omas ( Permanio), Ancora ( Zanio) , Aurora ( Platiridio) patented special metal alloys to remain attractive for the public, promoting their alloy nibs as durable, reliable and as good as gold ones. A similar phenomenon took place in Germany, too,  with Montblanc adopting steel nibs and Pelikan choosing Chromo-nichel nibs for their pens.

This Omas Extra lever filler in gray pearl celluloid is a beautiful example of wartime production, with  three thin chrome-coloured cap rings and a Permanio nib. Permanio was patented by Omas in 1941/42 and was widely used both for Omas pens, Minervas and productions on commission, too.

The pen is in excellent condition and the nib is smooth and flexible. Grade is M.
