The definition Solitaire, generally applies to diamonds, defining a single, prominent stone that stands out because it is not accompanied by other stones, allowing its beauty and brilliance to take center stage.

Montblanc started using the definition Solitaire between 1983/1984 to identify its top-of-the-range models covered with precious metal, namely silver, vermeil, solid gold or simply gold filled. The term Solitaire thus identifies a pen which does not need extra explanation. It stands out on its own, like a precious gem.

The first line of Solitaires Montblanc introduced were 146 LeGrand with silver , gold filled and vermeille  casing. Later on models with the Pinstripe design  were introduced.

This Montblanc  silver solitaire with barleycorn decoration shows the features of old style 146s: blue ink window and ebonite feeder. The clip ring shows the engraving "Germany". 

The pen is in excellent condition and probably it has never been used. It comes with its original Solitaire presentation box.
