The Conklin Pen Company was founded in 1898 by Roy Conklin, the inventor of the Crescent filler, a filling mechanism whose patent was filed in 1897.

The Crescent is an ingenious mechanism which marked a milestone in the journey towards functional self filling fountain pens and was a great commercial success.

The unusual crescent which protruded from the barrel played two important roles as it allowed to fill the pen and, at the same time, prevented the pen from rolling off the desk.

In addition, the structure of the mechanism, where the pressure bar was part of the crescent itself, left more room inside the barrel to house a large ink sac. Conklin Crescent Fillers were in fact advertised as "built like a camel", because they could work for a long time without needing to be filled.

"A camel can go days and days without a drink - so can the Conklin Pen. A camel utilises its hump when travelling, so does the Conklin Pen, which fills itself instantly at any inkwell by means of its wonderful crescent filler".

This Conklin Crescent filler is a large 50 NL with a nr. 5 nib. It has a three line imprint on the barrel and a double engraving on the crescent which places its time of production around 1920.

Imprints on the barrel are slightly faded and the ebonite shows some minimal oxidization but overall condition is more than very good.

The nib is smooth and flexible.
