WATERMAN 58 CARDINAL RED EBONITE - VERY RARE - EXCELLENT CONDITION

The line of Waterman ebonite lever fillers, first introduced in 1915, was meant to satisfy every writing need and was offered in a large variety of sizes. Next to the standard sizes, (51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 58), Waterman offered slender models (identified with the suffix 1/2) and shorter models (identified with the suffix V) mostly for the 52 size.

These pens were manufactured in black ebonite (both chased and plain) in mottled, ripple and cardinal red ebonite and later on in  olive ripple and blue ripple, too.

The biggest model of the line, Nr 58, was available in black, mottled and ripple ebonite and  it is a high end collectible.

Cardinal red ebonite 58s are extremely scarce especially in perfect aesthetic condition. Cardinal red ebonite is very fragile and it is not uncommon to find these pens with cracked caps or chipped cap lips.

They carry # 8 nibs which were available in the same range of flexibility as smaller nibs, so that it is not uncommon to find these pens with "Accountant" nibs ( fine and rigid, good for bookkeeping) since their large ink capacity made them interesting for accounting activities. They can also have flexible nibs, as in the case of this pen, which are extremely responsive and pleasant to use.

This pen is in excellent condition with no cracks, no chips and almost no  color variation (just slightly below the cap threads) between  cap and barrel. Imprints are clearly visible and the overall condition is really excellent.
