SAILOR SAKURA NAGARE - PROFESSIONAL GEAR - PRIME MINISTER'S GIFT
This is a very special pen which was never released for sale. The Sailor "Sakura Nagare” (Cherry Blossom) Prime Minister's Gift was commissioned by the Japanese Prime Minister's Office in 2009 and delivered in 2010. It was distributed exclusively as a state consolation gift to World War II veterans who had been prisoners in Siberia and it was meant to be a gesture of reparation as these veterans never received a war pension.
Production was limited to 2513 pieces of the Professional Gear standard and 1161 pieces of the KOP.
The decoration Sakura Nagare was designed by artist Tadashi Nakamura, who used urushi lacquer, gold powder and abalone shell inlay to represent cherry blossom petals falling into a river with a three-dimensional optical effect.
The government emblem, featuring the official Go-shichi no Kiri is present on the cap top and is engraved on the nib, too.
The cap ring does not show the usual Sailor engraving but shows the words: “Gift of the Prime Minister of Japan” engraved in Japanese.
The pen is pre-owned and it has been gently used. It is offered without box and papers. The 21 ct nib is F.
