OMAS SAINT GEORGE LIMITED EDITION - UNUSED WITH BOX

George, of noble Christian origin, served as a high-ranking officer in Emperor Diocletian’s elite Praetorian Guard. His history is deeply connected with the famous legend originating in the 12th century of a  plague-bearing dragon terrorizing the city of Silene in Libya. To save a local princess chosen as a human sacrifice to appease the dragon,  George fought with the dragon riding his white horse and in the end he  slew the beast.

This act led to the mass conversion of the local population to Christianity and remains a powerful allegory for the triumph of good over evil.

When Diocletian began persecuting Christians, George openly declared his faith and refused to participate in the slaughters. Despite brutal torture, he refused to recant and was ultimately beheaded in 303 A.D. He was later on sanctified for his strenuous defence of Christianity.

Deeply inspired by his story, returning Crusaders spread George's veneration across Europe, adopting the red-and-white George’s Cross (now the flag of England).

Today, St. George is celebrated annually on April 23rd. He serves as the patron saint of soldiers, scouts, fencers, and archers.

He is the Patron Saint of England, Georgia, Portugal, Catalonia, and Moscow.

In 2004 Gianluca Malaguti of Omas designed a special pen to celebrate saint George’s deeds and history. The precious Saint George limited edition is manufactured in silver with enamel decoration. The image represented on the barrel of the pen shows Saint George on his white horse  while he is  slewing the dragon. The cap of the pen is decorated with a floral motif and the clip is designed to replicate the shape of a medieval sword, enriched with a red cornelian. The cap of the pen carries a cornelian cabochon, too.

The Saint George limited edition  comprises  730 silver fountain pens, 303 roller balls and 73 fountain pens in gold and enamel.

This Saint George fountain pen is unused and is offered with its beautiful red lacquered box (no papers and documentation, only the box), made for the Russian market.
