PELIKAN HERZSTUCK 1929 - LIMITED EDITION - 90TH ANNIVERSARY

Pelikan introduced its first fountain pen in 1929 and it marked a turning point in the history of fountain pens. The first Pelikan model was in fact a piston filler and it immediately became a reference point for all pen makers worldwide. The pen in itself was a very simple piston filler, with no cap bands and a ribbed turning knob to activate the piston. A transparent ink window allowed to check the leve of ink in the barrel. The model was marketed without a specific name, which was however adopted in 1931: Pelikan 100.

Ever since its introduction, the Pelikan 100 thus became the pen to imitate,  both for the transparency of the barrel and the piston filling mechanism and it  marked the beginning of  a new era in pen production.

The Pelikan Herzstuck celebrates this very early model and many other Pelikan models which followed hereafter. A few  features of this pen are in fact  derived from various famous models, such as the engraved clip, reminiscent of the Toledo 111, the ribbed turning knob (with 18 ct rolled gold overlay), reminiscent of the very first series of turning knobs with the engraved arrow, the cap top engraving with 4 chicks,  and the bandless cap,  like the very first 1929 models.

The Herzstuck was manufactured in only 462 pieces, where the number derives from the last three digits of the original Pelikan patent for the model 100. The choice of the name Herzstuck, literally a piece of heart, synthetizes the dramatic evocative power of this pen which embodies 90 years of Pelikan history.

This pen is in unused condition and comes with its complete packaging in perfect condition. The nib is 18 ct gold with a special celebration engraving . Nib grade is M.
