OSMIA 64G BLACK CHASED CELLULOID - FLEXIBLE NIUB
Osmia was a small German pen maker founded in 1919 by former Kaweco employees Hermann and Georg Böhler in Dossenheim (near Heidelberg). The name refers to the use of osmium in tipping material.
The company manufactured fountain pens and was well known for the production of high quality nibs.
In its early years Osmia went through a dispute with Montblanc over a logo which was excessively reminiscent of the white star; after that Osmia adopted a diamond-in-a-circle logo which was used on all his products. Osmia pens were of extremely good quality and were widely appreciated for their price/quality ratio and for the flexibility of their nibs.
The Company was briefly associated with Parker around 1929–1930 manufacturing many Parker models with the Osmia logo among which the Osmia Supra is nowadays one of the most desirable. In 1932, Osmia sold its nib manufacturing department to Degussa and in the following years it was gradually acquired by Faber-Castell which took full control of it by 1951.
Under Faber-Castell the Osmia name was phased out by the mid-1950s, and the brand had largely disappeared by the early 1960s.
This Osmia 64G piston filler is part of the late 1940s production and is a very pleasant writer. The nib is smooth and flexible and the pen is very well balanced.
