PINEIDER PISTON FILLER - 1990s - RED AND BLACK EBONITE

The Pineider company was founded in I774 by Francesco Pineider in Florence. The shop was located in Piazza della Signoria in Florence and immediately became a reference point for high quality leather goods and personalized stationery.

Pineider items were created from the very beginning to be synonimous of elegance and exclusivity. The shop in Florence as well as the second shop which was later on opened in Rome, represented an important place to visit during the "Grand Tour" of the 1800s.

The tradition continued in the 1900s and Pineider items remained a reference point for personalities of the world of music, arts, cinema and politics. Its personalized exclusive stationery as well as its leather goods were highly appreciated all over the world.

Pineider's presence in the world of writing instruments was however  limited to the import of pens from Europe and the USA. The company did not have its own brand of pens.

In the 1990s however a drastic change of course took place when the company changed ownership and decided to enter the market of writing instruments. The first step was in 1990 with the publication of a pen book ( The American Fountain Pen), which was printed on very precious Pineider paper and had an extremely refined layout.

The following step was the production of a line of Pineider pens which was commissioned to Stipula in Florence. The pens had to express the principles of elegance and refined style which was part of the company's image.

The first line of pens were ogiva-shaped piston fillers in ebonite. The design was extremely simple and elegant and it was enriched by a semiprecious stone mounted onto the clip. Colors were black, red and black, green and black.

The pens used Bock nibs, thus offering reliability and smoothness but no flexibility at all.

This pen is part of the early Pineider production. It is unused and its nib grade is F.
